Biodiversity & Habitat Loss
Biodiversity is a huge part of what keeps the world and its ecosystems in balance. But with ecological development coming up against the impact of humanity, which in many parts of the world doesn’t work harmoniously with nature, the naturally occurring biodiversity of a space is thrown out of equilibrium. Climate change affects this further and can cause imbalances that destroy ecosystems. When thinking about what we can do to reduce the impact of global warming and the knock-on effects, we have to think carefully about how we protect and respect the need for biodiversity.
Habitat loss is one the most significant consequences of global warming and it is one that affects humans and animals of all kinds alike. We often talk about habitat loss in relation to native species, focusing on animals, but human habitat loss is a serious concern too. In ensuring that we avoid habitat loss where possible, we need to under biodiversity requirements, the needs of local and native species and avoid undertaking projects that will cause more harm that good – this is both on a small scale and large scale.
